Joy Nash - “Fat Rant”

Oh how I love Crystal Renn.

The first time I saw a picture of her was a couple years ago in some magazine (maybe Vogue, I guess.)  All I remember is thinking, “oh my god, this is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”  And now from watching her on the news I am even more excited to know how sweet, articulate, intelligent, and friendly she is.

Ordered the book yesterday - can’t wait to read it!

“At 22, I was highly aware that I have an expiration date, as a woman” - holy crap.

I’m watching Youth Knows No Pain on HBO, a documentary on plastic surgery and anti-aging in America.  It blows my mind that a person could blame something as ultimately insignificant as a crooked nose or not-quite-big-enough boobs (whatever that means) for their entire life’s unhappiness.  I know that people do - I am a girl, after all, and body snarking does seem to be a popular past time/bonding activity - but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still completely illogical.  And depressing.

And along those same lines, what’s so offensive about getting older?  What is so ugly about it?

I’m trying not to judge the people in the film so harshly.  I am only 20 years old, and maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about, but I hate to think that I would ever be so insecure and afraid of my age that I would go to such lengths to “reverse” it.  I hate to think that I would ever start to believe that beauty comes in only one form and one age…
